The
Rural Intelligence Gathering System
is based on the value of sharing
information and nearly 30 people have signed up so far.
Sgt. Ashley Seymour from Saffron Walden police said, "It is a
system that helps share information and intelligence between rural
people, Essex Police and others".
"They may have a vehicle drive on to their land and look around.
They can ring up and say they have seen it and the information
will be distributed to all the others who have pagers"
Gamekeeper Geoff Garrod said the pager helps in the fight against
crime including: farm thefts, illegal hare coursers and poachers
as well as the spotting of suspicious vehicles.
"We are getting the backing of the police to tackle a problem that
a lot of people do not appreciate," he said. "With the Pager
System we are getting an early warning call about people who
might be targeting our area and can be on our guard".
"It is sending a message out to these people that if you come to
Essex there is a very big chance that you will be caught"
The scheme was set up through a rural grant allocated by the
Government to forces responsible for policing rural areas.
